Mediterranean Pitta Bread Fresh from the Oven

You'll love this Basic Pitta Bread Recipe - Just think of all the good things you can stuff into a Pitta.

It's so easy to make delicious Snacks and tasty pitta pockets. For a healthy, low carb, light meal, why not stuff a Pitta with fresh salad and our own homemade Hummus, see photo. For another  vegetarian delight, why not stuff some with crispy iceberg and Baba Ganoush.

Or you can use grilled meats, fish, or even roasted vegetables. It's really versatile bread, and much easier to prepare than a sandwich.

Ingredients for Eight Pittas.

  • 300ml./1-1/2 cups of tepid water.
  • 1tsp. granulated sugar.
  • 1tsp. salt.
  • 2-1/2 cups 400g./12ozs. of strong white bread flour. 
  • N.B. - For Wholemeal Pittas use 200g. Wholemeal flour and 200g. White. 
  • 1tsp. Easy bake yeast - U.S.A. instant yeast.

Method

  1. Place the bread ingredients in the breadmaker in the following order: Water Olive Oil - flour - sugar - salt and yeast. Select DOUGH and start the cycle.
  2. When the cycle has finished - remove the dough. 
  3. Divide into 8 pieces.
  4. Knock back each piece and roll out into 9"x5" Ovals on a floured surface.
  5. Cover with oiled cling film and leave to rise in a warm place for 10-15 minutes.

    6. Remove the film and bake in a pre-heated oven at 400ºf/200ºc/ for          8-10minutes.
